A much-requested WhatsApp feature seems to be edging closer to reality.
If you’ve got two phones, then the option to stay logged in on both devices simultaneously could soon become available.
At the moment, if you sign in to your WhatsApp account on another phone, it will log you out of the first one as a security precaution. Which, if you regularly use two, can become a bit frustrating.
But the folks behind WhatsApp-based blog WABetaInfo have been digging through the most recent beta version of the app. And they believe that multi-device support may be coming soon.
The blog has discovered a new settings screen that includes a button for linking extra devices to your account. In order to get to it, users have to be signed up for the WhatsApp Beta Program – although test spaces for iOS are currently full up.
Multi-device support has been talked about for a while but only got serious around March when rumours started to spread about WhatsApp developing the feature.
‘WhatsApp is actually in a final stage of testing and the next step will be to open the beta program within the app,’ wrote WABetaInfo.
At present, it seems like users will be able to add up to four devices to their account and also keep messages and files securely synced.
That means no matter which device you log in on, you’ll have access to all your messages and groups.
