OnePlus has unveiled its latest flagship smartphones at a virtual launch this afternoon, alongside a new smartwatch.
The OnePlus Series 9 phones mark the start of a partnership with camera maker Hasselblad, which has helped co-develop the cameras.
The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro both feature ‘Natural Color Calibration with Hasselblad’ which aim to make pictures look as close to those produced by the legendary Swedish camera maker.
Hasselblad is responsible for outfitting Nasa astronauts with cameras during the Apollo moon missions.
The OnePlus 9 Pro’s 48MP main camera features a custom-designed IMX789 sensor, co-engineered with Sony, with an impressively large 1/1.4” sensor.
‘The OnePlus 9 Series represents a key milestone for OnePlus flagship smartphones. Co-developed with Hasselblad, the new Hasselblad Camera for Mobile will give users the ability to capture their own iconic moments with more accurate colors and premium image quality,’ said Pete Lau, Founder, CEO and Chief Product Officer of OnePlus.
The 6.5-inch OnePlus 9 and 6.7-inch OnePlus 9 Pro also feature the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mobile processors and super-fast ‘Warp Charging’ that can juice up the phones at 50W when paired with the dedicated (and sold separately for £69.95) wireless charger.
Both phones also feature 120Hz refresh rates on their screens and, naturally, are both 5G capable.
The two different phones are available in a range of different colours and configurations:
- The OnePlus 9 Pro is available in Pine Green with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for £929, SIM-free from OnePlus
- The 9 Pro is also available in Morning Mist or Stellar Black with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for £829, SIM-free from OnePlus.
- The OnePlus 9 is available in Winter Mist with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for £729, SIM-free from OnePlus.
- The OnePlus 9 is also available in Astral Black or Arctic Sky with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for £629, SIM-free from OnePlus.
OnePlus Watch
Meanwhile, the company also showed off its first ever smartwatch, the circular OnePlus Watch.
The device’s 46mm case is crafted from stainless steel, with 2.5D curved glass on the face alongside a glossy CD pattern on the display bezel.
It comes with 4GB of standalone storage and is compatible with most Bluetooth earbuds for music playback.
Featuring 5ATM and IP68 water and dust resistance alongside 110+ workout types, including automatic workout detection for jogging and running, the OnePlus Watch seems to be a pretty capable fitness tracker.
There’s built-in GPS, as well as blood oxygen saturation monitoring, stress detection, breathing training, rapid heart rate alerts and sedentary reminders, which are all managed through the OnePlus Health app.
Prices for the OnePlus Watch start at £149 and availability will be announced in the coming weeks.
‘Together with the new OnePlus Watch, our latest flagship smartphone series offers a burdenless user experience with even the smallest detail tailored to challenge the smartphone industry and empower our Community through premium technology,’ Lau said.
