YouTube channel Built IRL created a real-life grappling hook gun (YouTube/Built IRL)

We all had a lot more time on our hands last year, and one YouTuber used it to build a pretty incredible gadget.

Anyone that’s seen a Batman movie or played a Just Cause video game will appreciate a good grappling hook. Which is exactly what Built IRL has created.

The YouTuber, who’s real name is JT, has created the self-contained grappling hook that rests on his forearm.

The grappling gun uses a CO2-powered blasting mechanism to shoot the grapple into the air and then a 10,000W motor that’s powerful enough to pull his entire body into the air.

Using a wheel by his thumb, it’s possible for JT to control speed and direction.

In the video below, you can see him test it out.

While the gadget works surprisingly well, it does have its drawbacks. Things like controlling the grapple and accurately wrapping it around something are much harder than Batman would have you think.

Still, perhaps this will inspire other YouTubers to create some fantastic gadgets for 2021.
