Google has changed the app icons for all its popular services and not everyone is happy with the new look.
The tech giant recently unveiled Google Workspace, a redesigned version of the Google G Suite of apps that includes Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar and others.
The new logos take more of an inspiration from Google’s famous colourful logo and, for example, throw yellow and green into the traditional red and white Gmail logo.
‘Our new Google Workspace brand reflects this more connected, helpful, and flexible experience, and our icons will reflect the same,’ Google explained.
‘In the coming weeks, you will see new four-color icons for Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Meet, and our collaborative content creation tools like Docs, Sheets, Slides that are part of the same family. They represent our commitment to building integrated communication and collaboration experiences for everyone, all with helpfulness from Google.’
For some reason, people took to Twitter to express their displeasure with the new look.
Gmailâs new logo is a JOKE. A homogeneous color scheme for their entire suite of apps is a terrible idea. The red envelope stuck out much better. Now every app looks the same at a squint with the exact same colors. I hope they donât touch up docs sheets and slides. SAD! pic.twitter.com/FdrlTayb7D

Is it just me or Googleâs new icons are sooo identical? Iâm no designer but wonât it be a nightmare trying to locate the right app icon to click on in your app drawer if they are this identical? I wonder how people with daltonism will cope with the changes. pic.twitter.com/v0sYBCYHyH

Don’t worry, one day, it will just be one icon of a google logo and machine learning analysis of your facial expressions while looking at your phone will guess which google app you actually wanted.

Change obviously isn’t for everyone.
